A Xinhua report entitled “China cracks prostitution gang, 15 saved from Africa” says that Chinese police “saved” 15 prostitutes from Sichuan and arrested two of their Chinese “smugglers” in Congo-Kinshasa.
Interesting because it is an official acknowledgement that Chinese prostitutes work in Africa, a topic that has mostly been avoided so far. Also, another demonstration of China’s use of the global anti-human smuggling rhetoric. But the most interesting thing is that the article says Chinese police arrested the bad guys themselves, “with assistance from DRC authorities,” and “returned them to China,” a clear violation of sovereignty.
