New Hong Kong NGO to follow China’s activities overseas

A new organisation called Minjian International 民間國際 (minjian being the rather specifically mainland Chinese term for non-official activities) has been established in Hong Kong. It has members from mainland China, Hong Kong and elsewhere, including academics, journalists and activists. In an email, chairman Chan Koonchong described the organisation’s goals as follows:  “we try to form this network community of public intellectuals who are watchful of what China is doing to the world — the good, the bad, the ugly and the sublime.” The organisation wants to report on views of “civil society actors and intellectuals” in countries affected by China’s overseas activities.

  1. Kevin says:

as far as i understand, it is not an NGO, but a network / platform of intellectuals who are concerned about the implications of China’s growing presence in the world. we do not have staff or advocacy programme for the moment, but can have intellectual exchange among the members, which can create influence to the society.
